The Leading Ladies Little Big Band all female jazz band will be at the Duncan Showroom as part of their 5th Birthday Tour on April 25.
Starting at 7:30 p.m., take a listen to this “ambitious and dynamic group of young women who are quickly making a name for themselves on the Canadian music scene,” said a press release for the show, which marks their debut in Duncan.
Directed by trombonist Casey Thomas-Burns, the band’s repertoire features everything from 1950s big band classics to modern-day Canadian compositions, the release said.
“Beyond simply performing, this is a band with a mission. Despite jazz being a sector historically dominated by men, this new generation of young women are boldly taking their rightful place at the table.”

The HUB Film Club is back to their regular fourth Friday film offering following their Doc Fest last month.
Playing on April 26 at 7 p.m. is Anatomy of a Fall.
The film’s runtime is two and a half hours, and it tells the story of a woman who is suspected of murder after her husband’s death. Their half-blind son faces a moral dilemma as the main witness.
Director Justine Triet won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes film festival for this psychological mystery thriller.
The film is showing in-person only. Tickets are $8 at the door or in advance online at Eventbrite (though you will pay an additional fee).
Streaming on Sunday, April 28 all day is the Korean film Decision to Leave.
This multi-award winning romantic thriller tells the story of an investigation into a suspicious death from a mountain peak in South Korea.

Daniel Wesley, with special guests, will be hitting the Cobblestone Pub in Cobble Hill on Sunday, May 26.
“After selling out the venue multiple times as a solo artist over the years, he’s finally bringing the band for one big night of music,” said a press release for the show. Doors open at 7 p.m. with the show starting at 8 p.m.
“Daniel Wesley’s music has always been a call to live life to the fullest. And on Beach Music, the west coast singer/songwriter’s ninth full-length album, that call rings out more clearly than ever,” the release said.
The music reaffirms his roots, but also expands on his signature brand of reggae-tinged beach music, the release said.
“The common thread on Beach Music is Wesley’s willingness to navigate life carefully but with open arms, taking it all as it comes, and enjoying every moment.”

Imagine That! gallery in downtown Duncan is featuring two new artists in their display windows starting Friday, April 26.
In the first, Robert Andrews presents “Beautiful Boxes”.
Andrews creates hand-crafted boxes from selected hardwoods found on Mayne Island. They are finished with a smooth exterior, a live edge feature or have a special colour enhancement.
In the second window Hilary Huntley presents “Trial By Fire”.
Hilary Huntley has been a potter since she began to develop her craft while serving as a firefighter in Alberta in 1996.
“She shifted careers, moved to Vancouver Island in 2006, and now sells her beautiful and extraordinarily functional pottery in several galleries, online, and at a studio farm stand in Cowichan Bay,” said a press release for the display.
