Longevity John brings tons of talent to the Duncan Showroom stage in March

Longevity John is going into March with the roar of a lion with a great line-up of talent storming the Showroom stage.

On March 1, the Paul Black Band cooks up a fun evening with their CD release at 7:30 p.m. Black has been described as one who can rock out with the best of them while bringing his performance to a place where audience members can meld with it. Tickets are $20.

Music lovers will want to turn up to the Showroom on March 2 at 7:30 p.m. for Turnip the Beet — a country, blues, classic rock dance band. Tickets are $15.

Fall under the influence of Typsy Gypsy Jazz on March 3 at 3 p.m. It will be an afternoon of Django unchained as Typsy Gypsy takes attendees on a musical journey as they offer up a mélange of acoustic swing jazz, specifically in the traditional Manouche-Gypsy format and style from the late 1920s through to the 1930s, featuring compositions by Jean Baptiste “Django” Reinhardt-as performed by his famous quintet, The Hot Club of France. Jazz Manouche groups generally consisted of a lead guitar, violin, two rhythm guitars and bass. The Typsy Gypsys keep that tradition alive. A $20 donation is suggested.

On March 4 come out to celebrate the life of Dean Dupont at 2 p.m.

On March 5, Eugene Smith and co-host Bill Levity are at it again with the Eugene and Billie Show starting at 5:30 p.m., that has been coined the half-hour show that takes at least 45 minutes. The dynamic duo will be providing music, great stage banter, along with interviews and more music from their invited guests, and will hit the stage again on March 19. Be a part of the live studio audience for either show by donation.

Life is not a dress rehearsal, so bring your talents to the stage. The Showroom’s ‘Dress Rehearsal Tuesday’, also known as their weekly open-mic night, gets underway at 7:30 p.m. It’s a great chance for newcomers to get their feet wet, or for past performers to bring new material to the stage. Whether you sing, play an instrument, or both it’s your time to shine. There will be two more open-mic nights scheduled for the same time on March 12, and 19.

On March 6, at 7:30 p.m. get folked up with indie-folk fiddle singer Aleksi Campagne. To say the last couple of years has been a whirlwind for Campagne would be an understatement. In July 2022, Campagne was selected as a Mariposa Folk Festival Emerging Artist to perform at the festival. Fast forward to July 2023, he launched his debut album to critical acclaim and this past January Campagne was named Penguin Eggs and Roots Music Canada’s New Discovery of the Year. Come discover the folk sounds of Campagne for a $30.

On March 7 at 7:30 p.m. the Showroom hosts their monthly event Songwriters in the Round where three local singer/songwriters share the stage to showcase their own material in the round. Gracing the Showroom stage this month is Trevor Price, Naomi Payan, and Dennis Atkins. A donation of $15 to $20 is suggested.

On March 8 at 7:30 p.m., creative couplet Peter Paul van Camp and Mark Wonneck combine rhyming and songs, wit and wonderment, and tenderness and goofiness for an evening of entertainment like mom used to make. Attendees are sure to leave in good spirits, said a press release for the show. Tickets are $20.

On March 9 at 7:30 p.m., come and head-bang to the sounds of the progressive original rock band Tal Voda that hails from Victoria. A Tal Voda live performance has been described as a frenetic symphony that engulfs the senses and pulses through veins and synapses. Tickets are $25.

On March 10 at 3 p.m., Brian Gauci brings his acoustic guitar stylings to the Showroom stage for the sounds of jazz and blues which are the genres of his choice. Entry is a suggested donation of $20.

On March 14 at 7:30 p.m., enjoy the trifecta of a fantastic songwriter, superb singer, and skilled guitar playing with Andrea Smith. A $20 donation is suggested.

On March 15 at 7:30 p.m., come out for a night of fun with Rainshadow AI Band with seven players, two female vocalists, and the beautiful blend of bass, guitar, percussion and keys. A donation of $20 to $25 is suggested.

On March 16 come to the Showroom for 7:30 p.m., and spend the evening with Jay Stevens and the Chosen Ones for a fierce and fun time of triple guitar attack and funky west coast blues with a rock solid rhythm section laying the foundation with three axe-men that encourage and push each other and get out of the way when needed. This band of all-star musicians that was first formed in 2022 has played some of the biggest stages with bands including The Headpins, Doucette, David Gogo, Amos Garrett, Hwy 61 and many more. Tickets are $25.

On March 22 at 7:30 p.m. get in the fold of folk rock with the Lost Talkers as they perform original songs about Vancouver Island life. A $20 donation is suggested.

On March 24 at 2 p.m., sink into the ancient art of storytelling with the Island Storytellers. These tale tellers are from the Victoria Storytellers’ Guild, The Around Town Tellers, from Nanaimo, and the Mid-Island Storytellers, based out of Qualicum Beach and Parksville. This event takes place on the fourth Sunday of every month — there are two 45-minute sets with a short break in between. A donation of $15 to $20 is suggested.

On March 26 at 7:30 p.m., take in some poetry in motion as Bill Levity hosts For the Love Of Words (FLOW) at 7:30 p.m. FLOW is a monthly invitation for all writers and poets to bring their inner thoughts and powerful words to the stage and a live audience. Each performer will be given five minutes to read their works. Admission is $5 for all performers, and $7 for audience members.

On March 27 at 7:30 p.m., enjoy some mid-week comedy with the udder ridiculousness of the Holy Cow Comedy Company. Laugh it up with great punch lines and some mature subject matter. Tickets are $20.

On March 29 at 7:30 p.m., Brandon Isaak who has been nominated for a Juno Award in the category of Best Blues Album of the Year for his new album One Step Closer brings his trio back to the stage to wow attendees with his blues stylings. Isaak has also been nominated in four different categories for the Maple Blues Awards. Blues buffs will want to ensure they get one step closer to the Showroom stage for a moving and magical night of blues music with Isaak and his Mood Swings. Tickets are $25.

On March 30 at 7:30 p.m., come out and listen to the musical stylings of Trevor Davies combining jazz and rock and roll. He will be bringing along other fine musicians to explore his original tunage. A donation of $20 to $25 is suggested.

Cap off the off the month on March 31 at 3 p.m., with Poland jazz singer Gosia Hagen who will be accompanied by Andrew Janusson and Scott Arkell. Hagen brings her extensive experience of performing for festivals, concerts, recitals and cruise ships — so set sail to the Showroom for an awesome afternoon of all that jazz. Tickets are $25.
