Cobble Hill’s Creative Woodcraft is receiving $286,000 from the province to expand its cabinet and millwork facility.

The business specializes in custom design, build and installation of kitchen, bath, home theatre, and other projects for home, office or commercial space.

Creative Woodcraft, which currently has more than 11,000 sq. ft. of shop space, will also be acquiring new machinery with the funding that will aim to double its production capacity, reduce waste and create new jobs.

The government is contributing up to $8.6 million through the BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund to help pay for eight new capital projects on B.C., including the funding for Creative Woodcraft.

Company owner and president Will Duggan said the business is extremely grateful for the support from the BC Manufacturing Jobs Fund.

“The program contribution will help Creative Woodwork to increase production, optimize resource utilization, reduce waste and provide secure employment opportunities within our community,” he said.

“We have been engaged members of the Cowichan Valley community for almost 40 years in a business capacity, and it’s an honour to be recognized and supported in achieving our community goals while making a difference in our community.”

The Cowichan Valley’s first West Coast Nordic spa has recently opened at Shawnigan Lake.

Megan Northey and her partner Simon Vreeswijk opened Nyübu Nordic Spa at 2795 Meadowview Rd. last fall and they have already welcomed approximately 800 guests in just a few short months.

Nyübu allows people to escape from the grind and stresses of everyday life through the ancient restorative ritual of hot and cold therapy that has been practiced for centuries in the form of ice baths and a sauna.

“We’ve just been open a few months and it’s been absolutely wild,” said Northey.

“We expected it would take about six months to be where we are at now, but we were fully booked within about two weeks.”
