Dave Kral, owner of the Cobblestone Pub, and his staff have made a generous donation to the Malahat Legion, Branch #134, to assist with the costs of improvements to the Cobble Hill Cenotaph and surrounding area planned for completion in 2024.
Legion president Isabelle Hammer gave her sincere thanks to Kral and all the staff at the Cobblestone Pub for their kindness and repeated her belief that the donation demonstrates the incredible compassion and involvement of the Cowichan community of businesses and residents, who have shown over and again their commitment to local veterans both past and present.
Cobble Hill area director Mike Wilson thanked Kral and the Cobblestone staff.
“This additional donation, the second from our business community, will complement already allocated funds from the Community Works Fund being held by the Cowichan Valley Regional District’s parks department who will manage the project which we are aiming to be completed in advance of Remembrance Day this year,” he said.
Wilson explained that the plans include a complete refurbishment of the cenotaph itself and two additional flagstaffs so that the Canadian, British Columbian and Legion flags can all be hoisted together.
There will also be new distributed power and lighting installed so that the cenotaph can be illuminated at night.
Hammer and Wilson added their thanks to the Shawnigan Cobble Hill Farmers Institute who have already made a major contribution to the project by installing the required power lines to the cenotaph area from the adjoining Cobble Hill Hall electrical distribution panel.
