David Evans who owns the Stick in the Mud Coffee Roastoreum in Sooke and was the owner and operator of the Coffee House of the same name from 2007 to 2023 has announced his candidacy for the B.C. Green Party in the Juan de Fuca-Malahat riding. (Submitted)

Sooke’s David Evans brings his leadership skills, dedication, and forward thinking with him as he throws his hat in the ring with the B.C. Green Party in the Juan de Fuca-Malahat riding for the 2024 October election.

“It’s an honour to serve my community, especially at such a critical time,” said Evans. “I am committed to enacting practical solutions that honour the ‘sapphires and emeralds’ of our unique local environment in Juan de Fuca-Malahat while also fostering a resilient local economy.”

Evans, who is both a family man and an entrepreneur, has worn a few different hats over the years. With a degree in communications Evans has worked both in radio and written for magazines on a regional, national, and international level. He spent a decade as a farmer and horticulturist, which led him to opening a maintenance gardening business in Victoria in 1995. In 2007, he continued his entrepreneurial lifestyle as the owner and operator of Sooke’s The Stick in the Mud Coffee House. After a successful 16 years it was sold to a cooperative in July 2023, and Evans now owns and operates the coffee wholesaler Stick in the Mud Coffee Roastoreum.

Evans looks at the political landscape through a unique lens. Working with the public for several years has given Evans the opportunity to hear the concerns of his community members, and neighbours which have evolved over time. Concerns in the Juan de Fuca-Malahat riding that Evans plans to delve into range from traffic, cost of living, housing insecurity, healthcare, political division, to the climate crisis and more.

“With leaders like David stepping forward, the B.C. Green Party continues demonstrating our dedication to transformative and responsible governance,” said Sonia Furstenau, leader of the B.C. Green Party. “David’s candidacy underscores our commitment to ensuring that the voices of Juan de Fuca-Malahat are not only heard but are integral in shaping the policies that affect their lives and environment. Together, we are setting the stage for a future where our communities thrive on the principles of equity, sustainability, and prosperity.”
