The first ferry between Mill Bay and Brentwood Bay won’t sail until 11 a.m. Tuesday (Jan. 9) due to a staffing issue.

BC Ferries alerted users of the MV Klitsa that sails the shortcut across the Saanich inlet of a crewing issue early Tuesday.

Cancelled ferries include the 7:30 a.m., 8:40 and 9:50 a.m. departing Brentwood Bay and the 8:05, 9:15 and 10:25 a.m. sailings out of Mill Bay.

A replacement crew member was found for the services starting with an 11 a.m. sailing out of Brentwood Bay.

“We require a specific number of crew members on board the vessel to ensure the safety of our passengers in the unlikely event of an emergency and to comply with Transport Canada regulations. The decision to cancel a sailing in these circumstances is made when we have exhausted all options to find replacement crew,” BC Ferries said in a statement.
