Affordable housing, water protection referendums both pass

The questions had been controversial

Also on the ballot for all electors in the Cowichan Valley were two controversial referendum questions that will allow the Cowichan Valley Regional District to set up new functions and collect a nominal tax for affordable housing and drinking water and watershed protection.

Both referendums passed. The Cowichan Housing Association Annual Financial Contribution Service Establishment Byalw, 2018 to provide regional programs and services related to affordable housing and homelessness prevention passed 11, 981 to 9,799.

The CVRD Bylaw No. 4202 – Drinking Water and Watershed Protection Service Establishment Bylaw 2018 to support regional programs related to drinking water and watershed protection was even more popular among voters, easily passing 12,890 to 6,667
