North Cowichan issued a warning May 15 against wading and swimming at Maple Bay beach.
According to the municipality, “Recent tests show entercocci bacteriology counts exceeding acceptable limits at Maple Bay Beach. A beach advisory has been issued for this beach, and swimming and wading are not recommended. This is based on guidance provided by Island Health.”
Signs indicating a “Beach Advisory” will be posted on site at Maple Bay Beach (including the boat ramp area), and as a precautionary measure at Spring Street and Peters Lane beach accesses.
Island Health, with support from North Cowichan, will increase the frequency of testing at these locations.
