Bruce's focus: water, parking

Roger Bruce was born and raised in Duncan, has paid property taxes in Duncan his whole adult life, and is raising a family in the area, and now he is hoping to serve the community as a city councillor.

"I got to that stage where I thought it would be great to have the opportunity to give back to the local area," he explained.

Bruce has worked as an investment advisor with National Bank Financial for the last 24 years, having taught at Mt. Prevost School before he did that. Throughout his life, he says, he has had an interest in politics.

"I've always had a passion to talk about politics," he said. "It's always been part of the talk around the dinner table." Bruce would take a financially conservative approach to the council table, and wants to concentrate on things like water, sidewalks and parking.

"I believe in keeping property taxes manageable, and that council should focus in the main civic issues," he said. Bruce is also an advocate for amalgamation with North Cowichan, depending on how residents vote and if a study is done about amalgamation's viability.

"If they decide to do the study on amalgamation, I would support that, depending on how the study comes back," he said.
