Crofton water deal looks for AAP approval

A new long-term water supply agreement between North Cowichan and Catalyst Paper will be subject to the alternate approval process.

"Our agreement with Crofton has expired," said CAO Dave Devana, adding that he didn't expect there to be any difficulties because it's a good deal for

Crofton, which gets good quality water out of it. The approval process, where people who are against the idea register their disapproval, closes Feb. 16.

Asked why this was happening at all instead of just going to another five-year agreement, Devana said, "We could go five years but we're talking about a secure water supply for Crofton. I thought it was important to secure that long-term."
