Just as they would join forces to battle a massive blaze if one were to strike the Cowichan Valley, area firefighters are coming together this Saturday to raise money for fire victims in Fort McMurray.

Firefighters from the Cowichan Bay, Duncan, Shawnigan Lake, Mill Bay and Malahat halls will be holding a car wash and hot dog sale at the Valleyview Centre Country Grocer from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross to assist evacuees from Fort Mac.

The event is being sponsored by Country Grocer and CarStar Isherwood Body & Fender.

“Everyone knows someone up there,” said organizer Steve McCaffery, a Cowichan Bay firefighter. “Emergency services are involved big time, so we want to help them out.”
