A Cowichan Valley woman woke up in the middle of the night earlier this month to find a strange man in her house.
The woman was sleeping in her home on Herd Road on the night of July 9 when she awoke to the sound of footsteps and a light switch turning on, only to find a man standing there. The man ran off as soon as he was confronted and is not believed to have taken anything.
The suspect is described as slender and under five-foot-11.
“Our homeowner did everything right by locking her doors and windows, but the would-be thief pried open a window and managed to squeeze in,” North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Krista Hobday said.
Police are encouraging homeowners to reinforce their locks and put anti-theft devices on their doors and windows to discourage thieves.
“Unfortunately, nothing is completely foolproof, but you can target harden your homes as best as possible,” Hobday said.
Anyone with information about this crime should contact the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP at 250-748-5522 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
