Update: There were two passengers on board the plane at the time of the crash, a man and a woman, according to the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP.

The man has been able to get out of the plane, but the woman remains inside as of 3 p.m. Thursday, with unknown injuries.

"We are working in co-ordination with BC Hydro, and the Duncan Fire Department with assistance from the North Cowichan Fire Department to secure the scene," said Sgt. Kurtis Bosnell of the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP. The airport is closed while the investigation is ongoing. The Transportation Safety Board has been notified and will help determine the cause of the crash.

A plane crash near the Duncan airport knocked out power to thousands of homes and businesses in the Duncan and North Cowichan areas for approximately one half hour on the afternoon of Jan. 19.

The outage, which BC Hydro's website attributed to a transmission circuit failure, lasted from 1:10 p.m. to approximately 1:40 p.m.

The outage saw more than 10,000 BC Hydro customers without power from downtown Duncan through North Cowichan.
