An invitation-only, secret Facebook page is creating concern after it was stumbled upon by a Cowichan resident recently; so much so, it’s become the centre of a police investigation.
The page, titled Degenerate Trap Lords, features grossly offensive memes related to Nazis, the Holocaust, sex, those with disabilities and more.
The page was offensive enough to one Facebook user who came across it, that a police complaint was filed.
“We can confirm that this complaint has been received at our office and we can confirm that the complaint is still under investigation,” said Sgt. Chris Swain, a spokesman for the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP.
Some members of the group, which is believed to be about 130 strong, include youth and adults from across the Cowichan Valley, some having attended schools in Lake Cowichan, others elsewhere in the region.
So far attempts to contact Facebook to have the group shut down have failed.
“The community needs to know and parents need to know that this stuff is lurking amongst the youth in our community,” said the shocked Facebook user.
Police declined to speak further on the matter as the investigation is still active.
