A distraught man was safely removed from the Silver Bridge south of Duncan on July 22.

The man had called the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP from the bridge and told them he’d been thinking about harming himself.

Officers raced to the scene, stopped traffic, and were able to move the man out of harm’s way.

“Our officers are very committed to the safety of our community and those who live here,” said S/Sgt. Chris Swain in an RCMP news release. “In this instance, they were able to get this man the help he needed.”

The incident occurred at roughly 4:30 p.m. just ahead of the afternoon rush.
