Skate park goes ahead in Crofton

Crofton’s new skate park moved closer to reality this week.

Crofton’s new skate park moved closer to reality this week.

The Municipality of North Cowichan announced July 20 that Island firm Radius Construction has been selected to build the park on a 1.2-acre municipally-owned property at 1537 Chaplin St.

About 4,800 square feet in size, the facility will accommodate different skill levels, boarders, bikes and scooters.

Park construction is scheduled for completion in January 2017.

“North Cowichan is excited to break ground on the long-awaited Crofton skate park. The park will provide a much-needed place where Crofton kids and families can get outside and stay local,” Mayor Jon Lefebure said.

In addition to $200,000 budgeted by the municipality for park design and construction costs, funding has been topped up by $10,000 in community donations.
