It’s a dream come true for many young scholars. The Cowichan Valley School District has declared today, Feb. 28 a snow day.
The announcement included the closure of all schools and before- and after-school care sites within the district.
Shawnigan Lake School has also announced its closure for the day, while Vancouver Island University has closed its Cowichan campus for the morning at least, and will be updating the status of the school at 10:30 a.m. for the afternoon classes.

Cowichan Tribes has announced the closure of many of the band’s facilities as well.
“Due to weather and road conditions, Cowichan Tribes’ departments, offices, and buildings are closed today. This inclement weather closure includes our daycare, schools, and the Si’em Lelum Gymnasium,” said a post on Facebook.

Due to the snow and poor road conditions, BC Transit has also cancelled and/or limited some bus service so it’s best to call before you head out.
A red delivery service alert was issued for Duncan by Canada Post as well, meaning no mail was delivered Tuesday.

Meanwhile, first responders are being kept busy by motor vehicle incidents so avoid travel if at all possible until the conditions improve.
Bings Creek transfer station closed for the morning, and will reassess conditions at 10:00 a.m.
Island Return-It’s Norcross Road location is also closed Tuesday.
