Two men who spoke to police about their involvement in an assault in Chemainus have not been charged.

A 45-year-old man was walking alone on Victoria Road on July 12 when two men got out of their vehicle and began to verbally attack him. The situation turned physical shortly thereafter, and the victim sustained non-life-threatening facial and chest injuries from repeated blows.

After local media reported the assault, two men spoke with investigators at the North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP detachment.

“The police do not feel there are any threats to public safety and will be continuing with their investigation,” Cpl. Krista Hobday said. “There are no charges being recommended at this time.”

“The media has been able to assist the police in getting our message to their readers and we thank them,” she added.
