June 13, 1928 - October 7, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother on October 7, 2019 at Cairnsmore Place in Duncan B.C. at the age of 91.
Born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland on June 13, 1928, Dorothy was always proud of her Newfie roots, even while moving across Canada to Montreal and northern Ontario as a young woman. In 1957, she moved to Duncan and settled permanently, where she became affectionately known as "Dot" by extended family and friends.
Dorothy spent most of her working life in the hospitality industry. In her later years, she devoted endless hours to volunteer work with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 53, resulting in them awarding her a lifetime membership.
Dorothy is survived by three daughters, Lori Yonin (John), Cheryl Yonin, Cindy Phillips and six grandchildren: Sharann (Garrett), Elizabeth, Jessi (Jonas), Jarrod (Aurora), Matthew, (Liz) and Lindsy (Troy). Great grandchildren include Zydyn, Griffin, Abigail, Henry, Harper and Colt. She is predeceased by her parents Harry and Annie Littlejohn, her brother Gerald, and grandson David.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Cairnsmore Place who went above and beyond in caring for mom in her final days and hours.
A memorial celebration will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019 2 pm at the Duncan Community Lodge (formerly the Moose Lodge), 2244 Moose Rd. Duncan B.C.
