July 4, 1934 - March 28, 2022
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Edith Sarah Williams on Monday, March 28, 2022.
Edie was born in Vulcan, Alberta on July 4, 1934 to Frederick and Ruth Armstrong. She spent her childhood with her parents and siblings in Vulcan. She completed her nursing training at the Royal Alex Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta, working there for a brief period.
She also worked at the hospitals in Pouce Coupe and Dawson Creek. During the beginning of her nursing career in Edmonton, she met the love of her life, Gordon Williams, when she was treating him as a patient. They started their family in Dawson Creek, BC, but soon moved to Duncan, BC in 1960, where she worked at Kings' Daughters Hospital and 2 health clinics as the office nurse, before becoming a stay at home Mom. For several years, Edie also worked as a Camp Host at numerous campgrounds in western Canada and the United States. Edie and Gord raised their 4 children in the Cowichan Valley, spending much of their time fishing and camping. Edie and Gord enjoyed many vacations travelling in their motor home across Canada and the United States. Her favourite hobbies included fishing, reading, gardening and knitting. Her children and grandchildren were gifted many knitted wears throughout the years.
Family and friends meant everything to Edie, and she never missed an opportunity to celebrate a birthday, holiday, or happy hour with those she loved. She cherished her time with friends during her many excursions in the United States, where she spent several winters. She had hoped that one day she would be able to go back. Edie was passionate about being involved with the Duncan United Church, and the family that was created there. She spent countless hours volunteering for various church events, fundraisers and gatherings.
Edie is survived by her sons Patrick (Sue), Richard (Colleen), and Jody (Anita), as well as 9 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Her husband Gordon Williams, daughter Kerri Foster, as well as her parents and many extended family members predeceased Edie.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Duncan Manor, Cowichan Home Support and Cowichan District Hospital as well as Dr Ibrahim for the kindness, care and support Edie received.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 8th at 1:00pm at the Duncan United Church.
In lieu of flowers at Edie's request, donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, the Duncan United Church or a church of your choice.
Edie, you will be forever in our hearts.
