Predeceased by his wife Amelia, daughter Theresa Marie, brother Clarence, sister Laura (Bomford).
Survived by daughter Lori, son Ron (Trish), grandchildren Natasha (Adrian) Cools, Dustin (Adrea) Coulombe, Rylan Mayea, as well as great grandchildren Kaia, Lylah, Dylan and Jamie.
Ab passed away peacefully after a short illness in his 91st year. He was born in Duncan to Albert and Laura and lived there into his early 20's.
He enlisted in the Army and was called to active duty and deployed to Korea in 1951.
Prior to leaving for Korea he promised to marry Ame after his tour, and after 18 months overseas he returned to Canada and kept his promise to her. He was honourably discharged and they married on December 18, 1954 and began their life together in Duncan.
A year later on December 11, Terry was born and after falling ill she passed away at 18 months. Our parents overcame this tragedy and grew stronger together. They had two more children and moved to Port Renfrew in 1960 to work in the logging industry.
This is where the best time of everyone's life was had. Ab and Ame befriended many great people who remained close friends for life - sharing that 'Renfrew bond' with all the families who lived there.
In 1970 the family moved to Lake Cowichan which turned out to be home for the next 35 years. Ab moved to Duncan after Ame passed away where he thrived for the last five years of his life.
He loved being able to visit friends and the 'Shut Ins' at CDH and Cairnsmore - calling them his 'patients' and always finding time for everyone. He especially took time to talk to the less fortunate and always assisted people in any way he could. Ab had many friends and brought a smile to everyone who knew him. After all he endured in life, he was never anything but kind and sincere to everyone - a trait that we as a country can only hope for in the future.
Ab believed strongly in Canada and the role of the military for world peace. He loved this country and served it to make it a better place.
We will miss him but our Mom has waited eight years for him. They will be reunited in Port Renfrew where they will both be returned to where the river meets the sand and the sea.
