With deep sadness we announce the passing of Irene, wife, mother, grandmother and baba.
Irene will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 64 years, Will, and their children Terry (Leslie), Randy, Barb (Mike), and Patti (Doug) as well as her nephew Pat (Graznya). Irene always had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren Michelle (Michael), Becky (Mike), Caitlin (Ulrik), Michael, Brad (Amy), Sean (Iain), Jeff and Ben.
In addition she was "Baba" to three precious great-grandchildren Julia, Miriam and Eloise. Irene will also be missed by her sisters Stella and Emily (Ron) and numerous nephews and nieces. Irene was predeceased by her brother Walter and sister Ina.
Irene touched so many people's lives.
Irene had a long and rewarding teaching career in many locations in Alberta and BC. She particularly enjoyed teaching kindergarten and is remembered fondly by many of her students and their parents.
Irene was happiest puttering in her garden and loved to share the bounty with friends and family. Her greatest love was her family near and far. There was always room for one more at the table and plenty of great food. Irene had a heart of gold, giving of her time at the church, food bank and various other charities. She always had time to help friends and family.
A funeral mass celebrating Irene's life will be held on Saturday, July 28 at St. Edwards Church 2085 Maple Bay Road at 1:30 pm. Reception to follow.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Cowichan District Hospital, Sunridge Place and Dr. Gilbert for the wonderful care during Irene's battle with cancer.
