Jagjit Kaur Minhas, age 89, passed away peacefully at the Cowichan District Hospital surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with heart and lung disease.

Jagjit was born in Majra, Punjab, India on May 15, 1928 and was one of nine children. In 1945, Jagjit married Sarup Singh Minhas in Punjab, India and settled in Bahadargarh, Punjab. Together, they raised four beautiful daughters. Following the death of her beloved husband (1991), Jagjit came to Duncan, B.C. to live with her daughters in 1993. Jagjit earned the respect and admiration of all those she encountered along the way.

She is predeceased by her parents, Bhagwan Singh and Thakri Kaur Janjua, her husband Sarup Singh, her daughter Devinder Kaur, her brothers Parkash and Gurdash, her sisters Gurbachan, Naranjan, Budha and Sankri, and her granddaughter Pam.

Jagjit is survived by her daughters, Ranjit Kaur Parmar (late Gurbax Singh), Balinder Kaur Parmar (Amrik Singh), Manjit Kaur Parmar (Sangram Singh) sisters Surinder Kaur and Paro Kaur, son-in-law Jiwan Singh Parmar (late Devinder Kaur), 15 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Jagjit's family doctor, Dr. Harwood Reimer, and Dr. Fazil and Dr. Morris, as well as the staff at the Cowichan District Hospital.

A celebration of Jagjit's life will be held at H.W. Wallace Cremation and Burial Centre at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 17. Doors open at 1 p.m. The service is followed by prayers and lunch at the Paldi Sikh Temple.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jagjits's honour to the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the B.C. Lung Association.
