October 30, 1942 - June 14, 2018
The peaceful passing this past week of Lorna Jean Hughes (aka "Nana") is sad news to all who knew her & especially for those who were close to her.

The daughter of George & Rena Ferguson, Lorna was born in Vancouver B.C. & spent her early childhood in the Fraser Valley region of the lower mainland & the Lake Cowichan area. It was there where she met & married William (Bill) Hughes for 36 years.  Together they raised four children. Bill a widower who was 24 years her Sr. had three of his own from his first marriage that were adult age.

Survived by her sons Ron (Linda), Pt. Roberts, Washington; Kyle (Angie), Lake Cowichan, BC; Howard (Brenda); Livermore, California; daughter Melanie (Bill), Nanaimo, BC; step sons Alfie, Micheal and step daughter Louise. Lorna was also a nana to 3 granddaughters Cara, Lauren & Veronica; 5 grandsons Kyle, Lake, Ryan, Dylan & Parker; step grandchildren Jamie, Robin (pre-deceased), Hiedi & Laurel.

She loved being a mother, wife, nana and was a good listener to any friend that was in need of someone to talk to. She had incredible ability to connect with people & instantly impact them with her assertiveness, intuition and positive attitude. She was a very inviting & hospitable person who possessed phenomenal ability in the kitchen to cook & bake. Anyone that knew her would tell you they were lucky for two reasons, she made you feel like the most important person in the world & she probably gave you some of the best meals of your life.

Her closest friend throughout her life was Murray Logan. The relationship they had was as unique & as uncommon that you would find in life. Murray has been especially attentive in caring for the entire Hughes family throughout his life but particularly for Lorna after the passing of her husband Bill in 2002.

Lorna had a very quick mind and had an unmatched passion, unlimited sense of humor, a great enthusiasm for movies, music, reading, sports and for a good long visit from unexpected visitors who would regularly come her way.

In 2004 Lorna was Baptized into Christ & dedicated herself to obedient service to the lord as a member of the Nanaimo Church of Christ. The book of James was inspirational to her and one of her favorite passages was James 1:2-4 "Consider it a joy my brethren when you have various trials, for you know that that the testing of your faith produces endurance and let endurance have its full effect, that you may be perfect, complete and lacking in nothing".

Lorna did not want a funeral service but those who wish to send cards or notes may do so to: PO Box 1001, Lake Cowichan, BC, V0R 2G0; or by email: thecoghlans@shaw.ca.
