October 20, 1933 - August 4, 2022
Mary Hussey was a loving wife, mum, grandma and friend. She left this life surrounded by her family on August 4, 2022 at the age of 88.
She was an only child born in Strood, England and moved to Rochester when she was 8. She passed the entrance exam to the Fort Pitt Grammar School in Chatham. After graduation, she worked in London as an editor at a publishing company.
Mary loved to go out dancing with her friends and at one of these dances she met her husband, Alan Hussey, who she was married to for 66 years. They were married in 1956 and their children, Sharon and Nigel, were born in Gillingham.
After Alan left the Royal Navy in 1963, they decide to emigrate to Surrey, Canada. Alan's job took them to Chemainus where their third child, Linda was born.
Mary loved to volunteer and was involved with the Girl Guides, Anglican Church and the NDP. After living in Chemainus for 21 years and working in Duncan, she moved to Port Coquitlam for Alan's work.
Once Alan retired, they moved back to Duncan to be closer with their family. Mary helped look after all seven of her grandchildren from driving them to lessons, school, having sleepovers and baking with them.
Mary loved to travel, particularly with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cruise ships where she could tour the world by sea, and she also enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas. Friends were very important to Mary, and she kept in touch with a number of friends that she met at school and at work in England and Canada.
She was especially close to her friend, Audrey, whom she met at age of 8 and her cousins, Chris and Doug.
Mary leaves behind her loving husband, Alan; children: Sharon (predeceased by Herbie) Cheong, Nigel (Aya) Hussey and Linda (Vern) Wheeler and her grandchildren: Jennifer, Kellie, Joshua, Jazmin, Martin, Julia and Liam.
Mary's Funeral Service will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, August 19, 2022 at St. John the Baptist, 3295 Cobble Hill Rd, Cobble Hill, BC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Mary's name to the Cancer Society.
