Tom Millard

July 19, 1939 – June 4, 2021
It is with great sadness that the family of Thomas (Tom) Millard announces his passing on Friday, June 4, 2021, at home surrounded by family.
Tom will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Marg, and his children Shannon (Greg) Gammie, Kevin (Cindy) Millard, and Kelly (Mike) Hamm. He will forever be known as “Papa” to his six grandchildren, Jackie (Josh), Jayden (Julia), Jace, Gavin, Matthew and Paul.
He is also survived by his sisters, Kathryn Mead and Dorothy Constable, brother-in-law John (Lee) HIlton, sister-in-law Doreen Millard, and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents Baden and Gertrude Millard, brother Raymond Millard, sister Frances Southin, brother-in-laws Ward Southin, Lawson Mead, Graham Constable, nephew Len Southin and niece Shelly Mead.
Tom was born July 19, 1939. He was raised in Chemainus BC and graduated from Ladysmith High School in 1957. Employed in the forestry industry his whole career, Tom started out with MacMillan Bloedel as a logging truck driver, eventually retiring from Weyerhaeuser as a Heavy Duty Machine Operator at the Chemainus Dry Land Sort, in 2002.
Tom started his volunteer service with the Chemainus Firehall in 1956, retiring in 2001, for a total of 45 years of community service. During this time he served as deputy chief for 12 years and chief for 15 years. He had many accomplishments during his time with the hall, including the planning and construction of the Chemainus Safety Building.
Tom also volunteered with the Chemainus Ambulance Service for 10 years between 1970 and 1980. He was a well liked and respected member of the community.
Tom’s greatest love and source of pride was his family. He loved camping, fishing, woodworking, and spending time with family and friends. He will be dearly missed.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Manhas, Dr Nielsen, Dr Parimi, Dr Masuda and Dr Adzich, the staff of Bay Shore Home Health, and the nurses of Ladysmith Community Health Centre. A special thank- you to family, friends, and the past and present members of the Chemainus Firehall, during this difficult time.
Those wishing may donate to the Prostate Cancer Foundation of BC in Tom’s honour.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
