William (Billy) Thommasen was born in Nanaimo, BC. He attended Jericho Hill School for the deaf in Vancouver, but left early to go look for work. He met his wife to be Ora (nee Goresky) at the same school. They found each other years later and were married in Castlegar, BC in 1955.

He was a tireless worker and not afraid of a challenge. As a young man he built his own home in Youbou, with the help of his late father Arthur (wife Anne) Thommasen of Victoria.

Billy had many brothers and his one beloved sister, Bev Martin of Lake Cowichan who was employed by School District #66 for many years, sadly predeceased Bill.

Bill worked as a "Boom Man" and on the "green chain" for BCFP Youbou Sawmill until he retired in 1989. We will all cherish our memories of Bill's energy and enthusiasm for life and his fun loving spirit.

Bill was a devoted family man, married to Ora for 62 years, they had 3 children; daughter Anne Coulombe, Dr. Harvey Thommasen, MD now retired and residing  with wife Carol in Bella Coola.  Their oldest son Stephen Thommasen, sadly deceased many years ago.

Bill and Ora have 4 grandchildren; Cora Coulombe (Brent Brooks), Christopher Coulombe (Kirsten) of Lake Cowichan and Honeymoon Bay. Grandgirls of Bill's also Keri and Amy (a medical student) of Harvey and Carol, not to mention the 6 great grandchildren.

Special thanks to the nurses and Sunridge Place, Dr. Reynolds of Mill Bay and Myra, Angela and Wendy, dear friends for their kind care in his last years.

"Where we love is home - home that our feet may leave, but never leave our hearts."

Love you Dad...
