Development is Quamichan’s problem

The majority of people around Quamichan Lake are in a fight with North Cowichan to protect the Quamichan rural area from dense development.

Read your article today.

I believe you are only touching on the real story. The majority of people around Quamichan Lake are in a desperate fight with North Cowichan to protect the Quamichan rural area from dense development.

North Cowichan is not telling the whole story, as they are on a mission to create more high density development around Quamichan Lake area such as the Donnay development. They approved this a week ago even though we pointed out the dog deaths due to water quality.

They totally ignored our requests for community engagement and approved a new development anyway. We have argued for months that there needs to be more study and discussion before development occurs in the Quamichan Lake area and the most endangered Garry oak ecosystem in Canada. The mayor and some councillors have just ignored our very detailed and extensive submissions in regards to water quality and many other issues.

I noticed the mayor did not mention this fact.

They have legislated much of the surrounding areas of Quamichan Lake to be Urban Containment Area or in ordinary terms “High Density Housing”

Big problem for the lake and the Garry oaks!
