Kudos to Tek Manhas and Bruce Findlay for opposing the use of gender-neutral terminology by the North Cowichan city council. Findlay is right when he wonders how many people truly object to the use of established terms and want the new gender-neutral terms, no doubt a smaller number than the visionaries imagine. As is always the case in other such initiatives, it is often a small but vocal group who want these changes while the rest of us go along with them out of the ever-present fear of being branded as racists, reactionaries or politically incorrect.
Tek Manhas is also right when he says that it is probably the “Anglo Saxons” who come up with these words. In fact, it is often white liberals with a deep ideological bent who want these sorts of changes while someone like Manhas, who truly understands the effects of racism, either don’t want the changes or care more about the truth.
In fact, in our judgement, what is really behind this is the attempt by the “Woke” to push their ideology on the population at large. We, the general public, have been subjected to this for years, suffering the effects of being silenced, excluded and even having our livelihoods eliminated simply for disagreeing with something that it should be our democratic right to oppose.
So once again Mr. Manhas and Mr. Findlay, thank you for your principled and courageous stand in this matter. There are signs, this year in particular, that many more people are agreeing with you than disagreeing and that is a hopeful sign for the future.
