The word “demand” in the May 10 headline, “Halalt demands fee for industrial use of road” is misleading. Unless we are now starting to characterize bylaws passed by North Cowichan and Duncan as demands as well. As a nation, the Halalt are asserting their natural and inherent rights as the authority on their lands. Kudos to the Halalt for continued stewardship for the community’s health and safety.
