Community Benefits Agreement wasting taxpayer money
Jon-co Contracting is having a dispute with the provincial government in regards to its Community Benefits Agreement.
Jon-co Contracting is a non union company and the Community Benefits Agreement states that all contractors working on the [new hospital] project that do not belong to a union must sign up with a union within 30 days.
The Community Benefits Agreement is a total waste of B.C. taxpayer dollars. Why? The NDP built the inland island freeway with the Community Benefits Agreement in place. Because of the Community Benefits Agreement, the inland island freeway cost $50 million more to build than the Coquihalla Highway built by the former B.C. Liberal government. The extra cost was strictly caused by the Community Benefits Agreement.
With all of the news being reported on this dispute, there is something not mentioned that would probably put a end to this dispute very promptly. The Cowichan Valley electoral riding does not have an NDP MLA and if the riding had a government MLA, this dispute would be laid to rest. Taxpayers have to bite the bullet when it comes to election time. Electing an MLA that is from the provincial government in power is a great benefit to the electoral riding. Having a opposition MLA will get nowhere with complaints from Cowichan Valley riding taxpayers. Argue all you want until you are blue in the face. You will still lose your argument.
