What will it take to wake people up to reality of climate change?

Every day I am frustrated by the total lack of planning, forethought and empathy for our planet that government and citizens display regarding the impending disaster of global warming.

As a society we support Olympic Games and other mass sporting events, travel to far off places or stay home and drive around in fuel inefficient trucks and large SUVs, all of which have a huge carbon footprint.

Just look around people, threats from excessive temperature, flooding from abnormal weather events, extreme wildfire events and food shortages just to name a few are on our doorstep. What has to happen to jolt individuals and governments into the reality that our planet, our only home is dying and quickly?

I am extremely disappointed that our country, our province, and our citizens seem to think it’s acceptable to carry on business as usual in the face of extreme conditions around the globe, and only announce a few minuscule solutions in an effort to stave off the disasters that besiege us. May our future generations have the courage to take extreme action to head off disaster if it isn’t too late.
