New voting system would take 10 years

If [proportional representation] was used in our last election there would be 133 Liberals, 107 Conservatives, 66 NDP, 15 Bloc, 11 Greens.

If PR [proportional representation] was used in our last election there would be 133 Liberals, 107 Conservatives, 66 NDP, 15 Bloc, 11 Greens. Now how would you cut 51 Libs, add eight Cons, add 22 NDP’s, add five Bloc and add 11 Greens?

I voted for PR, but some very intelligent people did not because they did not understand how it would work. The concept is simple but the logistics are extremely complicated; things that would likely need to be done would be, restructure our electoral districts (ridings) with multiple party candidates in each, a whole new balloting system, a total re-education of the electorate. All this would take about 10 years if all parties stopped squabbling.

If the three other parties really want PR, stop yelling and give the present government another eight years mandate to get it done?
