What is the NDP doing to lead the way?

Dear Cowichan MP Alistair MacGregor:

Shame. Disgust. Fear. Loathing and anger.

These are the palpable emotions I feel watching our police and politicians timidly tolerate truck convoys of ignorant, anti-vaccination Covid-deniers infecting various Canadian cities, including Ottawa.

What is the NDP doing to lead the way toward ridding our capital and elsewhere of these dangerous, belligerent louts whose ranks include naive citizens and hate-group members?

It would seem logical for NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh to speak out forcefully now against this disgraceful anarchy, especially with a federal election sitting under our horizon.

Let’s not forget the Tories are likely to elect a new Harper-type leader sympathetic to these pathetic protesters and other bullies.

What are we waiting for? Block all highways and streets to intimidating anti-vaxers’ fake-patriotism — and their polluting rigs sporting anti-Canadian slogans, racist slurs and threats.

Alistair, all of this sure feels and looks like 1930s Berlin.

Except we have allowed these bogus, selfish protesters to occupy our cities without a shot being fired — yet.

These truck occupations are not freedom of speech.

Authorities across Canada had weeks to plan precisely how to prevent these misguided mobs from hijacking in our downtowns, disturbing businesses and civilized residents following Covid 19 mandates established by medical professionals under oath to help the public.

Truck protesters apparently haven’t the wherewithal to understand Covid is a provable global pandemic that has killed millions.

And even if Canada dropped its mandates, American authorities would still rightly ban non-vaxed truckers from entering the U.S.

Vaccinations, not outrageous political demands nor occupations, are the only way toward the civilized normalcy we all want.

Our federal and provincial mandates are in force to protect everyone, including childish conspiracy theorists with Covid fatigue.

Truckers — most of whom are ironically allegedly vaccinated — claim to be tired of Covid restrictions and believe they have civil rights to infect others, including compromised patients and the frail seniors.

Obscene.

Alistair, I am counting on the NDP to take all legal actions possible to stamp out these fascist flames before they spread too far.

Yours in a healthy democracy,

Peter W. Rusland,

North Cowichan
