Call-ups buoy Cowichan intermediates

Even with seven regulars missing from their lineup, the intermediate B Cowichan Thunder still managed to outclass Campbell River last Saturday. With three midget A call-ups - Mathieu Jung, Brian Robb and Trey Cleemoff - in the lineup and goalie Dallas McLaughlin suited up on defence, the Thunder grounded the Ravens 14-4 to remain undefeated on the season.

The teams were tied 2-2 after one period, but Cowichan pulled away to lead 9-3 after two and continued to dominated in the third.

Jung and Colin Winship had three goals and an assist each, Robb and Tyson Black had two goals and three helpers apiece, and Brandon Corby scored twice and added one assist. Jimmie Johnnie chipped in with a goal and two assists, Cleemoff scored once, and Corwin Trent had two helpers.

Kain Stewart had a good game in net behind the solid defence of McLaughlin, Steven Robertson, Jordan Lysne and Tyler Weidenfeld.

The Thunder will head to Saanich this Thursday, then host the Juan de Fuca Whalers at 7:45 p.m. on Friday.
