The Cowichan Valley Capitals missed a chance to clinch third place in the B.C. Hockey League’s Island Division when they lost 3-0 to the Victoria Grizzlies on Tuesday evening.

After a scoreless first period, the Grizzlies scored two goals in the second period and one more in the third. Capitals goalie Storm Phaneuf stopped 32 of 35 shots, while Victoria’s Matthew Galajada was perfect in stopping all 26 Cowichan shots.

The Caps went 0-for-5 on the powerplay, while the Grizzlies scored once on six opportunities.

This weekend Capitals will head out on their last road trip of the season, with games against the Surrey Eagles on Friday, the Wenatchee Wild on Saturday and the Chilliwack Chiefs on Sunday.

The team will round out the season with a home-and-home series against the Nanaimo Clippers on Feb. 26 and 27.

In more positive news, Capitals forward Matthew Hudie was named the BCHL’s Player of the Week for Feb. 8-14 after recording five goals and an assist in three games while helping the Caps lock up their first playoff berth since 2012.
