Five Cowichan Valley senior soccer teams came out of last weekend with clean sheets.

In addition to Vancouver Island Soccer League Div. 1 Cowichan LMG’s 5-0 win over Lakehill (story on page 26), Div. 2 Cowichan United, Masters A Cowichan 49ers, Masters C Cowichan Steelheads and Lower Island Women’s Soccer Association Div. 2 Cowichan Outlaws all shut out their opponents.

Cowichan United put together an 8-0 win over Fred Milne Park Rangers at the Sherman Road turf on Saturday. Stevan Zorich, Kevin Smith and Ryan Andre each scored twice, while Tanner Dobson and Dan Citra had one goal apiece, and Darian Achurch earned the shutout. Jonas Golf-Myers was named Man of the Match.

United is now 9-1 on the season and sits first in Div. 2. They visit Westcastle United this Saturday.

The Cowichan 49ers earned a 6-0 win over SFFC Internationals at the Ladysmith turf on Friday. Ryan Fusick, Darcy Penner, Neall Rowlings, Stu Barker, Darcy Kulai and Richard Lord did the scoring, while Rob McIntyre picked up the shutout. The 7-2-2 49ers are in second place in Masters A and visit Nanaimo United this Sunday.

The Masters C second-place Steelheads improved their record to 7-6-1 with a 3-0 win over Fernwood Dragons at Rotary Park on Saturday. Peter Bontkes, Bill Keserich and Goran Jandric had the goals, while Jan Bittman got the shutout. The Steelheads host CB Bobcats Alumni at Sherman Road at 6 p.m. this Saturday.

Kaitlynne Lewis was again flawless in goal for the Outlaws as they tied Prospect Lake 0-0 at a “home” game at Layritz Park in Victoria.

“The first half they carried the play and the second half we outplayed them,” coach Neall Rowlings said. “We were unlucky not to come away with a win.”

Rachel Price, Amanda Sidhu and Jade Soluk had outstanding performances for the Outlaws. They will look to extend their four-game unbeaten streak this Sunday when they host Castaways at noon at the Sherman Road turf.

Cowichan Red Arrow lost 6-2 to Juan de Fuca in a VISL Div. 3A game at McAdam Park last Sunday. Ryan Flynn and Georg Nickel scored for Red Arrow, and Jeff Lederer was named game MVP. Red Arrow hosts Castaways FC at Sherman Road at 8 p.m. this Saturday.

Also losing last weekend were the Cowichan Cougars in the LIWSA Over 30A division. With just 10 players — sometimes down to nine — they fell 5-0 to league-leading Gorge FC.

“An excellent performance by those who were able to come in spite of being outnumbered,” coach Darian Achurch said, crediting Venessa MacDowell with an outstanding game.

The Cougars visit Castaways this weekend.
