A week ago Sunday, Duncan Christian Reformed Church had a pumpkin carving contest for families organized by Pastor Dan Schultz.
The church’s other pastor, Kevin Vanderveen, is the Chaplain of the Cowichan Capitals.
The prize for winning the contest was two tickets to a Capitals game so Tom Veenstra figured he’d carve a Caps themed pumpkin to appeal to the judges.
It didn’t work. But that’s OK with Veenstra.
“If the judges could only see the impact of my pumpkin on the actual Caps, I think I would have easily won the contest,” Veenstra said.
“Tonight, a number of the Caps were out trick-0r-treating and came by my house and noticed my pumpkin. They wanted a photo of the pumpkin with themselves!”
