Directors named for Cowichan 2018 BC Summer Games

Sixteen local volunteers join president Jennifer Woike and vice-president Mona Kaiser.

The Cowichan Valley Regional District has announced the names of the board of directors for the 2018 BC Summer Games, which will take place next year on July 19-22.

The team under previously announced president Jennifer Woike and vice-president Mona Kaiser will lead the planning and organization for the games.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the process of vetting and selecting the Board Members for the 2018 BC Summer Games,” Woike said. “I was always in awe with the immense amount of talent we have in the Cowichan region. We have a strong, dedicated, talented group of individuals and we have been lucky enough to secure 15 of them to work with Mona and me.”

In addition to Woike and Kaiser, the board includes Mark Margerison (accommodation), Tara Benham (administration), Kirsten Schrader (ceremonies and special events), Damir Wallener (communications systems), Chad Conrad (food services), Dan Varga (Friends of the Games), Jim Dias (logistics), Cam Drew and Cal Kaiser (marketing), Nick Withers (medical services), Deb Savory Wright (participant and volunteer services), Anne Muir (protocol), Garrett Elliott (sport), Garry Burns (security), and Wendy Mitchell (transportation).

The 2018 BC Summer Games will feature young athletes from across the province, competing in more than 20 different sports. More than 3,000 volunteers will be needed to stage the event, which is expected to bring more than $2 million into the local economy.

“This strong leadership team will continue the legacy of successful Games in the Cowichan Valley,” said BC Games Society President and CEO Kelly Mann. “By featuring the culture and hospitality that the community is so well known for, B.C.’s best young athletes and coaches will benefit greatly and have the experience of a lifetime while celebrating sport.”
