It’s been a successful season for the Queen Margaret’s School senior girls’ soccer team.
Undefeated in the regular season, the QMS Royals went on to secure a berth in the provincial championships with a second place showing at the Vancouver Island High School Senior AA Girls Soccer Championships May 8 and 9 at the University of Victoria.
Recently, the team travelled to Surrey to participate in the B.C. title tournament hosted by Southridge School.
“Our girls played with tremendous heart in every game leaving everything they had on the pitch,” said coach Nick Zuback.
The Royals finished the tournament with a 2-2-1 record for 13th overall in the province.
The Cowichan team played to a 1-1 draw with Vernon Christian School in their first game of the tournament. Jenna Stinka scored the lone QMS goal.
Zoe Mycroft scored the team’s only goal in their second game, a 3-1 loss to 100 Mile House.
In their third game, it was Stinka again, tallying the only goal against the host Southridge team. QMS fell 5-1 in the contest.
Annelise Rasmussen scored the one and only goal in QMS’s 1-0 victory over Mount Elizabeth in their fourth game of the tournament.
In Game 5 against Nakusp, Rasmussen scored twice and Maggie Mycroft added another in the 3-1 QMS victory.
Jenna Stinka was awarded the Super 16 Award for the Royals for all her efforts throughout the season and the provincials.
