The Duncan Masters drew first blood in the Nanaimo Senior Men’s Fastball League championship series with a 6-2 victory over Baker Supply at Glenora’s Waldon Park on Tuesday evening.
A four-run fifth inning powered by Blair Bourgeault’s home run put the Duncan crew ahead for good, and pitcher Craig Snyder shut the door from then on.
Baker Supply scored in the top of the first inning, but Duncan went ahead with two in the bottom of the first. Baker Supply drew even with one run in the third, and it stayed that way until the Masters broke out the bats in the bottom of the fifth.
Leadoff batter Joey Massingham got things going when he was hit by a pitch. Jamie Gicas singled, then Trevor Gicas singled to score Massingham.
Finally, with one out, Bourgeault went yard to bring home both Gicas brothers.

Snyder and Trevor Gicas both finished the game 2-for-3, with Gicas adding two RBIs. Massingham and Jamie Gicas were both 1-for-2 with two runs, and Bourgeault and Dave Devana both went 1-for-3.
Snyder also pitched a complete game, striking out 13 and allowing six hits, half of those knocks coming off the bat of Baker’s Justin Godfrey, who went 3-for-3 at the plate.
Baker Supply clinched the berth in the final by beating Wheatsheaf 10-3 on Monday to win the semifinal series two games to one.
Game two of the final series was scheduled to be played in Cedar on Thursday. The third game, if necessary, hasn’t been scheduled yet, but will probably be played in Glenora next week.
