The Cowichan Valley’s Black brothers have the market cornered on provincial junior B lacrosse titles.
A week after older brother Tyson captained the junior B Tier 2 Cowichan Valley Thunder to their provincial championship, younger brother Brody helped the Tier 1 Victoria Shamrocks to the championship at their level.
The Shamrocks wrapped up the Tier 1 title on Aug. 6 when they beat the Coquitlam Adanacs 8-5 to win the best-of-three series two games to one. Overall, Brody Black scored seven goals and assisted on eight others for 15 points in four playoff games, while fellow Cowichan Valley product Denton MacDonald also posted 15 points on five goals and 10 assists in seven playoff appearances.
MacDonald finished second on the team in the regular-season, with 63 points on 22 goals and 41 assists in 17 games, while Black had 21 goals and 20 assists for 41 points in 14 games.
Tyson Black was one of three players to cap off their junior careers, also earlier in August, by adding the junior B Tier 2 title to an already-remarkable collection of provincial medals. Tyson Black, Brandon Corby and Colin Winship all won gold medals in peewee A in 2009, midget A2 in 2012 and intermediate B in 2015. Also part of all those provincial titles were head coach Lorne Winship and assistant coach Traves Black.
