For 14 years, SportBC and KidSport have been presenting the Community Sport Hero Awards throughout B.C. This time around, the Cowichan Valley has been chosen as one of the award ceremony locations.

The program recognizes coaches, officials, mentors and administrators who have dedicated themselves to amateur sport at the community level. Since its inception in 2001, 50 provincial sport organizations have honoured 536 sport volunteers in 45 different communities.

SportBC is accepting nominations on its website (sportbc.com), where more information about the Community Sport Hero Awards can be found under the “Programs and Events” tab.

Eligibility requirements state that the nominee must be an individual from the local community who makes a voluntary contribution to sport through coaching, officiating, board administration, special events, etc., and has been or continues to be active as a volunteer for at least eight years. Organizations and foundations are not eligible.

The ceremony for the Cowichan Valley will be held on Feb. 16 at the Best Western Cowichan Valley Inn from 6:30-8:30 p.m. For more information, contact Recky Lai at events@sportbc.com
