The second annual Tset’suw Suwa’lum Games were held last month, with more than 200 youth from six First Nations and two friendship centres taking part.
Athletes from the ages of seven to 12 took part in rugby, lacrosse, soccer, basketball, floor hockey and the traditional game of lahal, also known as the bone game. Events took place at Quamichan School, the Sherman Road soccer fields and the Si’em Lelum gym and fields.
“It was all about fun and participation and physical activity, health and well-being of our children,” said Cowichan Tribes recreation director Dano Thorne.
This was just the second year of the event, which promises to get bigger in the future.
“As it grows, a larger event will require older age groups, so we look forward to working with all of our communities,” Thorne said.
