Duncan’s Brock Gowanlock admits he’s always maintained he was going to win Canadian football’s biggest trophy.
The former Cowichan Bulldog did just that on Sunday, Nov. 19, when he and the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes came from behind to win the CFL’s 110th annual Grey Cup.
“I’ve never been shy to say I was going to win it all one day,” he said with a laugh.
Following the 28-24 comeback victory over the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Gowanlock, 27, said Monday that the experience was “amazing”.
“It was crazy to see the amount of messages and support that I was getting from everyone in Duncan,” he said. “I feel super happy that we got the job done and could make everyone proud.”
In just his second year in the CFL and still working to be an on-field regular, the six-foot-three, 240-pound defensive end said he most definitely felt the community support behind him this season.
“It was a very humbling experience and I’m so grateful to have such a strong support system rooting for me back home,” he said.
On what comes next, Gownlock didn’t hesitate, saying he wants to “keep this thing rolling. The only thing better than one is two championships.”
Drafted to the CFL with the 66th pick in the eighth round of the 2020 CFL draft, Gowanlock previously had a 38-game career with the University of Manitoba Bions of U Sports football between 2016 and 2021. Prior to that he suited up with the Langley Rams of the Canadian Junior Football League from 2014-2015 after the completion of his Bulldogs career.
